Lascaux Cave Horses is a vivid modern interpretation of the celebrated Paleolithic paintings of Lascaux Cave, located in southwestern France and dating to approximately 17,000 years ago during the Upper Paleolithic. Often called the “Sistine Chapel of Prehistory,” Lascaux preserves some of the most sophisticated and dynamic animal imagery ever created by early humans.
 
In this original composition by award-winning historian and artist, Lochlainn Seabrook, the iconic horse figures are reimagined with careful attention to archaeological and zoological accuracy. The animals are rendered with compact builds, deep torsos, and primitive proportions consistent with Pleistocene wild horses, closely comparable to the living Przewalski’s horse, widely regarded as the nearest modern analogue to the horses depicted in Lascaux. Surrounding handprints and patterned dot clusters further reflect the symbolic and communicative elements observed in the original cave environment.
