"Remembering Captain Freeman" Fine Art Photographic Print by Lochlainn Seabrook

This gravestone marks the final resting place of Confederate Captain Samuel L. Freeman, who headed Freeman’s Battery, Forrest’s Cavalry. After surrendering to Union soldiers near Franklin, TN., April 10, 1863, Freeman was suddenly and unceremoniously shot in the head by one of his Yankee captors. General Forrest, who “loved Captain Freeman ardently,” is said to have “burst into tears” at the news of his friend’s wanton murder.
